Wing Yu Chu: Information Systems

Wing Yu Chu was an Education Intern at Domo during Fall 2024.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

I really enjoyed working at Domo. I am an education intern, and throughout the experience, I created a dashboard, graded Domo exams, and learned to use the Domo platform for ETL and SQL for data filtering. I was able to clean up data, analyze data, and create dashboards. My manager liked my dashboard and extended my internship. I also helped alleviate my coworkers' workloads and streamline processes.

What did you learn in your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

I was able to gain knowledge about database structures, particularly learning about using Snowflake. Additionally, I improved my communication skills with different clients, which I did not initially expect to focus on. I had anticipated that my job would mainly involve working with dashboards and learning to optimize processes using Domo. However, I also developed better communication skills with clients through email and the Domo platform.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

My future plans remain the same. The most valuable aspect of this experience is that I was able to gain knowledge of another BI tool, which I can now add to my resume. This skill makes me more capable of becoming a data analyst in the future.

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

Throughout this experience, I truly enjoyed gaining new knowledge. Previously, I was only familiar with using Tableau, but working at Domo gave me the opportunity to learn other BI tools, which inspired me to explore and learn even more. Additionally, during conversations with my manager, I was impressed by his commitment to continuous learning, which deeply inspired me to keep learning and growing, even after graduation.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

I would highly recommend Domo as a great company. It offers valuable mentorship opportunities and provides the chance to acquire new knowledge about its platform.
