Tyson Yee: Accounting

Tyson was a Financial Services Organizations Assurance Intern for Ernst & Young during Winter 2026.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

In the Financial Services Organizations (FSO) sector of assurance at EY, I provided assurance for the financial statements of two extremely large banks. It was a hybrid work environment (three days a week in the office, two at home ), and I was split between two engagement teams. On one of my clients, I spent time auditing investments, loan terms and agreements, and derivatives. On my other client, I audited the allowance for credit loss, which included ensuring that different factors for the allowance were reasonably stated. I witnessed one of our clients officially file their 10-K because their filing time was during the time I was still working with EY. I got to see the fruits of our time and labor go into the presentation of our client's financial statements to the public. It was neat to be able to see the official 10-K and what I did to help with its publication. This experience resulted in a variety of opportunities for me, including networking with both the client and coworkers, enhancing my communication skills, and receiving a full-time offer to return after I graduate.

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

I learned that the professional workplace is much more personable and friendly, at least at the firm where I interned. I could truly be myself, and I saw others be themselves while still maintaining professionalism. I learned that it is ok to express yourself and have fun while working.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

My future plans have not changed drastically, but they have been solidified by my internship experience. While I have always intended to work at EY after my internship, I also feel more liberty and confidence to explore new options if I really want to. Because of my internship, I now feel more confident to change paths if I desire, because I have experienced the workforce.

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

This experience truly helped me solidify what I want to do moving forward in my career, and I consider that inspiration and revelation from God. I feel like God helped me obtain this internship opportunity and He guided me along this entire journey. The whole experience has been one full of revelation because I now know where I want to start my career and I feel comforted about it.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Absolutely. Even if I decided not to return to the firm, I would still recommend the internship because I learned valuable lessons that are hard to learn anywhere else. It was refreshing to understand what having a full-time job might look like. I got to experience life after school for just a couple of months, and I am grateful for that because now I have an idea of what it will look like when I start working. I also met dozens of professionals with whom I am now connected.

Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?

I would like to say that I also got paid extremely well. However, even if I did not get paid at all, I would have appreciated the internship experience just as much because I believe that some of the lessons I learned were more valuable than the money I earned.

For internship training, EY flew us out to Dallas, and we took a picture next to the statue of NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki! This was super neat because I love basketball, and I have always wanted to see this statue. Names of people from left to right: Seth Bennett, Blake Wolfe, Tyson Yee.
