Trevor North: Manufacturing Engineering

Trevor was a manufacturing engineering intern for Castle Sports during Winter 2024.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

My role consisted of a lot of different responsibilities from project management, product development, product outsourcing, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing improvement. Upon completion of my internship I felt like I had a good experience stepping into the engineering world. I felt balanced as I performed so many different functions in the company. I felt I grew personally from so many different challenging tasks.

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

I think the biggest thing was how to work with so many people who think differently than me. I wasn't expecting to do much with the sales or marketing department, however I spent a lot of time with them. I also spent time working with those who worked in computer science as I made renders for the website for them. It was a great learning experience.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

My future plans have changed in the sense that I want to find a place that has as good of work culture as this company did. I want a good place to work that gives me more responsibility and rewards hard work and company loyalty.

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

I think the biggest revelation was about how everyone plays a important role in a company and in the world we live in. My many responsibilities meant interacting with a lot of different people and as I did, I learned more about the integral part they within the company and it made me pause to reflect to remember how we're all children of God just trying to make our way in the world.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Yes, I think this internship was phenomenal, it's the best way to get introduced into the engineering field without feeling too much pressure of making a million dollar mistake. I felt that if you are a productive go getter student, you will succeed here and will have the opportunity to develop a lot as an engineer and person. You have the opportunity to fulfill multiple company tasks from supply chain to engineering. This all would give anyone a very well-rounded experience.

Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?

It was better than I could have ever hoped for, for a first time internship. I'm grateful for the opportunity and fun work place.

From CAD to real life! A dream come true, our prototypes paid off and we fully developed from scratch a new product!
