Tiffani Cookson: Animation

Tiffani was a CFX Production Development Intern for DreamWorks during Fall 2025.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

I was brought on to help the CFX production development team for two internships at DreamWorks one in the summer and one in the fall! Our job was to create tools to make the CFX Artists jobs easier. CFX stands for Character Effects these artists are responsible for the simulation of character related elements like hair and cloth they also simulate the environment! While many of the specific things I did cannot be shared I improved in both my artistic skills and coding skills as my team worked with me to develop tools requested by the artists! I was also able to aid in shot work! I was brought on to work with the Shrek 5 team and the Forgotten Island team. For both of them I simulated both hair and cloth, I love my team they are amazing and I grew a lot when I was there. It was also an incredible experience to work on feature films and have my name be in the credits!

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

One of the tools I helped to develop was mathematically intensive. I knew going into the internship I would be using both my artistic and coding skills, but the tool needed me to have a deeper understanding of Linear Algebra. Problem solving the equations was a very insightful experience and led to even more satisfaction when I was able to successfully implement the tool! I plan to continue learning as much as I can to be able to fulfill any request given to me!

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

I've always wanted to work on feature length Animated films and my internship has just cemented my dream in finding a job at an Animation Studio after I graduate.

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

It was an life changing experience to be there for both the summer and the fall. I had always told my family that I dreamed big and planned to go to DreamWorks one day. Getting the internship was a dream come true! I am so grateful for all the people I was able to meet and the lifelong friendships created. I loved getting to know everyone and experience their passion and love for what they do, it truly inspired me to continue striving for my Dreams!

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Yes! The DreamWorks Early Careers team works really hard to create a meaningful experience they are incredibly kind and encouraging. All of the teams work really hard to make sure interns are supported and can learn anything they want to know. My team was always there for me and I am so grateful for what they were able to teach me.
