Simona was a digital designer for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during Winter 2024.
Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.
I mostly created short and long videos for Instagram and YouTube, edited pictures for posts, helped with the upcoming re-design of Strive to Be accounts. Thanks to the skills and opportunities I got during the internship, I've gained more confidence in my design and editing abilities. Before the internship, I didn't know what else I could do besides freelance illustration. Now, I feel like I have a range of jobs open to me in social media and design spheres.
What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?
I learned that clear communication is the #1 one predictor of a successful design.
In school, I was always given clear objectives. In real life, we’re not given specific direction most of the time. During my internship, I needed to learn to ask questions and figure out what works and what doesn’t.
How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?
Because of this internship, I have a wide variety of content-creation jobs open to me thanks to all the skills I acquired. I'm also now considering working for the church again in the future.
Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.
This internship was very spiritually strengthening for me and I realized that my spirituality grows when I strive to help others spiritually.
As I was looking for content ideas and created media that would uplift others,
I found being uplifted and strengthened too.
Would you recommend this internship to other students?
I would recommend this to students who are interested in a wide range of digital content and design creation! This internship provides a wide range of skills to use and acquire!
