Seth Worthen: Law

Seth Worthen interned as a Judicial Extern for North Carolina Court of Appeals during spring/summer 2022 semester.

Describe a day in your life as an intern.

The judge would assign cases to me and I would spend most of my days researching statutes and caselaw and writing bench memos.

What industry/job specific skills did you learn?

I learned how to do thorough legal research and to perform legal writing tasks in a concise manner.

What is one thing you learned from this internship experience that could be applied to other settings?

I learned that writing can always be improved. I would work with a law clerk and the judge and they always had something to add to improve my writing.

What was your favorite part of your internship experience?

Getting my assigned materials turned into the judge and meeting with him to discuss his thoughts and how they compared to mine.

How did this internship experience affect your future goals?

First, it helped me get a job in Charlotte for next summer. It also helped me understand that I don't want to be a litigator.

How did you find your internship?

I applied through BYU Law's Linx system.
