Sam was an acquisitions analyst intern for NorthRock Companies during Fall 2023.
Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.
I learned proper research techniques to find explanations for why there are cancer disparities between the race/ethnic populations in the United States. This in turn will contribute to mitigating cancer incidence and mortality rates in suffering populations as well as helping us understand what socioeconomic factors contribute a large role in cancer incidence and mortality. This would also help absolve many aspects of healthcare inequity.
What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?
I was not expecting to learn real estate asset management because this aspect was added in between the interim of Summer and Fall of my time here.
How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?
No, but it confirmed that this is the field I want to pursue.
Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.
It provided me with clarity that I wanted to pursue this field, which is a big decision for my life. It also confirmed that I want to work at a smaller company that fosters a culture that I can be comfortable in.
Would you recommend this internship to other students?
Absolutely. The associate, Franck Rosas, is an incredible mentor and teacher and really takes time to give feedback. The culture at NorthRock is so welcoming and everyone takes a genuine interest in all the interns. It is also rigorous, and will challenge your excel skills and financial knowledge.
Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?
I believe that anyone wanting to pursue real estate finance should apply for this internship. It is hard to get, but it is well worth studying for the interviews and learning all that you can beforehand.
