Student Spotlights

Regan Fillmore: Communications

Regan was a Research Associate for McKeon Group during Fall 2025.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

I researched bills, reached out to congressional offices, attended congressional hearings, reported on findings and interacted with large companies to bridge gaps between policy and businesses.

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

I learned how to carry myself with confidence. I was given tasks that felt out of my comfort zone, but completing them encouraged me to tackle more tasks that stretched me and allowed me to be a confident and reliable intern.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

I am now applying to multiple graduate programs that I had the opportunity to tour and meet alumni from during my time in Washington, DC. Getting to tour these campuses and learn about more programs encouraged me to use my voice and get involved, allowing me to shift focuses in my graduate school plans.

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

I felt that my internship allowed me to receive revelation on what path to pursue next. I met so many wonderful mentors at work and at church that encouraged me to pray and look for God's hand. This lead to me seeing where God has already lead me and the direction he continues to encourage me to be on.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

I would recommend this internship to other students because it not only helps you sharpen your professional skills, you can gain a greater understanding of other parts of the country and world by inserting yourself in a new environment. Global orientation is critical in decision making in personal and professional settings.

Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?

Even if you feel under qualified- you should apply. You know more than you think, and you have a lot to contribute. I made life long friends through the internship program I was involved in and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

BYU's Housing in Washington DC is only a 15 minute walk from the monuments. Students often spent evenings after work walking around the National Mall and admiring other historical sites.
