Priscila was a Leadership Intern for Alpine School District during Winter 2026.
Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.
During this internship, I had the opportunity to do job shadowing with administrators at the elementary and secondary levels, as well as district-level administrators.
In my case, I developed a project focused on promoting and informing the community about the DLI program through the schools. It was a project I completed in collaboration with district leaders.
Through my work with elementary and secondary principals, I was also able to build a portfolio of diverse experiences that will help me meet the requirements to obtain my school administrative license.
What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?
Everything was new to me in terms of understanding the work of administrators.
This experience gave me the opportunity to observe them in a variety of roles, from working with parents to handling budgeting, as well as interacting with students.
I was also able to see how they develop the master schedule, plan and organize their work, and I had many opportunities to learn from these leaders.
How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?
For me, this made it clear that I can be an administrator. Before this opportunity, I didn’t think I was capable.
Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.
In our course, we had the opportunity to talk about leading in the Savior’s way and following Christlike attributes, using Christ as a model for leadership.
I was able to see this reflected in the people I had the chance to work with. I felt fortunate to observe administrators who truly care about providing the best for their students and for those they serve, and who are also committed to ensuring that their teachers have the tools they need to do their jobs well.
This was very inspiring to me, because it helped me understand that educational leadership is not about sharing everything you know or simply teaching others, but rather about listening, learning alongside others, giving people opportunities to lead, building capacity, and doing the kind of work that makes service to others even more meaningful.
Would you recommend this internship to other students?
It is very important that everyone has the opportunity to engage in this kind of observational and project-based experience.
Teachers learn a great deal by observing others, and the same is true for administrators.
For that reason, I would recommend that anyone interested in administration take the time to truly understand the work in practice before deciding if it is something they want to pursue, because there are unique challenges that need to be considered.
