Olivia was a Health Coach for the Student Wellness Center at BYU during Winter 2025.
Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.
I coached BYU students in 5 different categories: intuitive eating, social strategies, stress management, nutritional and physical wellness. Many students expressed appreciation and were able to change bad habits.
What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?
I learned a lot, but something I learned that I wasn’t expecting was how much it would also help me. As I was doing research for my clients and coaching them on improving their behaviors it helped me with my habits in return.
How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?
If anything, it has just solidified that I want to do coaching in the future. It has also made me realize that I want to specialize in just one category- intuitive eating.
Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.
Every time I would start a coaching session, I always started with a prayer. I know that this helped me to reach the needs of my clients through following the spirit. One time I was preparing for a session with a client and I was praying and asking God what she needed and what I should coach her on that day. When I had the session with my client, I asked her what she wanted help on that day and she said she needed exactly what I had felt prompted to prepare. God is good!
Would you recommend this internship to other students?
YES! It gives you so much experience, you work with other amazing student coaches, you get to help the BYU student body, and you create awesome friendships. This has really helped me solidify what I want to do in the future!
Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?
It’s the best! And the supervisor, Maya Koller, is so awesome and supportive!
