Niccolina: Nonprofit Management

Niccolina completed an internship with Make a Wish Utah as a Marketing and Communications Intern. This is what she has to say about this experience:

How did your internship align with your initial expectations?

I think I was expecting more balance between all of these areas, but in reality there was much more writing than I had anticipated; much more than any other task I was assigned.

What day-to-day tasks were part of this experience?

I contacted Wish families, wrote wish stories/profiles, posted content to social media, and did projects in Adobe design.

What would have better prepared you for this internship?

I wish I had more Adobe experience. My program has very limited classes on using this software and yet it is an expected skill for every role I've been in thus far.

Was this experience a confirmation that you are going in the right direction, or is it a pivot to something else?

Confirmation. Regardless of my expectations, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Make a Wish. I felt confident in the skill set I possessed to complete my work, and I enjoyed doing so.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Yes, absolutely! One of the number one recommendations from my professors was to gain more writing experience, even if it's not as fun. This will help immensely in future writing projects I will be expected to fulfill in other positions.
