McKay Treadwell: Finance

McKay was a Acquisitions Analyst Intern for Peak Capital Partners during Winter 2024.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

I was able to do detailed financial analysis for potential multifamily acquisitions in markets throughout the United States. Using Microsoft Excel, I manipulated financial models and made key assumptions in these models about market trends, demographics, comparable property metrics, and performance outlook.

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

I learned about company dynamics in a fast-paced environment. The real estate industry is struggling, so it was insightful to see how these professionals are adjusting to difficult market conditions.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

I want to pursue a different avenue of real estate than my internship, but the skills and foundational analysis will be very helpful moving forward.

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

I feel that this internship helped me feel more sure about the career I want to pursue. I don't necessarily want to pursue what I did for my internship, but I am extremely grateful for the experience.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Yes. While unpaid, this internship provided me hard skills that will help me in my career. It also provided me an opportunity to think critically and make assumptions that would add value to company projects and initiatives. It was a great stepping stone in my education.

Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?

I loved the integration of what I've learned in school into my work experience. This was one of the first times I felt that what I learned in school was really helpful for me in the workplace.
