Madelyn Barzee: Elementary Education

Madelyn interned as a 3rd grade teacher for Blackridge Elementary during Fall 2024.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

I have been teaching 3rd grade for the past five months and have learned so much. I work with my team members to create the best learning for my students as possible. I take time to plan lessons that are tailored to the needs of my individual students. I work closely with parents to ensure that they are aware of how their child is doing at school. I feel my work is impacting students positively as I strive to create a safe learning environment for all students.

What did you learn in your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

I learned that I have grown a lot from my previous internships. Each past internship has helped me learn and be prepared for my next role.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

Because of my internship experience, I have now decided that I am a good fit for the Utah Jordan school district. I have decided to stay in Utah for longer than I thought when I first came to BYU for school.

Please describe what personal inspiration or revelation came from this experience.

I feel that my ability to connect with others has increased from this internship. I am able to see all the students I teach as children of Heavenly parents who love them even more than I have grown to.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Yes because I have so much support as an intern that I otherwise would not have.
