Taylor interned at BYU's Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering as a Social Media Manager
Describe a day in your life as an intern.
The start of my day at my internship would consist of a daily self check in and self evaluation with my work and tasks. After I organized the day out, I would get to working on responding to the organization’s audience questions or comments, I would then plan with the team and write content for our social media platforms, which I would then take through an approval process. Later on, I would post approved content.
What industry/job specific skills did you learn?
Proper research and applying knowledge learned from statistics to better improve our social media strategy.
What are three things that you learned from this experience that could be applied to other settings?
1. Effective communication by listening to what my teams specific goals were and finding a shared goal with them.
2. Leadership skills. How to confidently take charge of a project and a team and listen to their needs and provide those needs.
3. Adaptability by learning how to work through challenges that arose during projects and how to make changes work.
What was your favorite part of your internship?
Learning how to work in a team. Learning how to be a team player, as well as a team leader.
What was your least favorite part?
Miscommunication and the challenges that arose by projects falling apart at times.
How did this experience contribute to your growth?
It taught my to be more confident in my abilities and that I had more to offer a team and an organization then I gave myself credit for. It helped to me push myself and grow in my abilities.
