Wanzhe interned at Brigham Young University during Winter 2024.
Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.
In this capstone class I helped create a project using the video storytelling skills I have learned in the program. I worked on a group project to create a short documentary. The focus of this documentary is to tell the story about how BYU–Pathway Worldwide is changing lives and ensuring more prosperous futures. I participated in the creative process from inception through pre-production, production, post-production, and premiere.
What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?
I learned that it is a journalist’s job to give a voice for the voiceless.
How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?
My future plans have changed after I realized that I don't desire to be in the news business. My experience from this capstone class solidified my ideas of getting into the entertainment industry and becoming a performing artist.
Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.
Being part of the film crew gave me the opportunity to witness the miracles of BYU–Pathway Worldwide. For instance, Elder Gilbert, who’s one of the creators of the program, told me that Doctrine and Covenants chapter 88 verse 73 inspired him and his colleague to design the DNA of the program, addressing important issues and blessing lives. I felt inspired to follow their examples and help more people with the education I have received.
Would you recommend this internship to other students?
I would recommend this capstone class to those who truly case about journalism and want this to be their career because it's a difficult program and you need to spend a lot of time on doing homework outside of school.
