Student Spotlights

Lena Rice: English

Lena was an intern for BYU Broadcasting during Spring 2024.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

I wrote episode descriptions for dozens of shows that air on BYUtv, as well as movies and marketing campaigns. My work can be seen on the BYUtv app or website. I also volunteered at different events including marketing for The Lisa Show and working for Studio C.

What did you learn in your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

I applied for a "Writer" position but I've learned a lot about marketing, which I wasn't expecting. I've also learned about the importance of growing relationships to make a team work well together.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

I am more open to other jobs than what I've previously wanted (Book editor). Now, I am open to marketing positions.

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

I've grown a lot personally while completing parts of my job that are outside of my comfort zone. I've also learned a lot about my creative capabilities for writing and marketing. I also learned that I might have more interest in working in marketing than I previously believed.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Yes. BYUB really wants their students to learn and grow while they work. All the managers are happy to work with you if you show your skill and hard work and willingness to learn.
