Kelly was an MSW Therapist Intern for Scenic View Academy during Spring 2025.
Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.
This internship involved working with a neurodivergent population from ages 18-30 participating as a MSW intern. In this internship I had the opportunity to do individual therapy in person and telehealth, psychoeducational classes and groups, collaboration, supervison hours, meetings with clinical, staff and training.
What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?
I’ve had the opportunity to learn a great deal about neurofeedback and to work as a technician, setting up brain training sessions and creating brain maps.
How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?
Yes, I used to want to work with only teenagers who experienced trauma but now i feel inspired to work with people who are on the spectrum.
Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.
My experience led to an insightful revelation: I want to continue working with the neurodivergent population I’m currently serving. It has taught me so much, and my interest has only grown. I’ve been reading more about the population I’m working with and deepening my understanding every day.
Would you recommend this internship to other students?
Yes, a million times, yes! It is a place where you can learn so much about everything. I have been able to practice therapy using ACT and other theories. I’ve had the opportunity to lead support groups, teach psychoeducation classes, and provide individual therapy, couples therapy, and neurofeedback therapy. I receive two hours of supervision each week and have access to a wealth of resources to support me. It’s a great place to experience social work at the macro, mezzo, and micro levels.
Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?
It is a great environment, safe and welcoming. All the staff are helpful and want to see you succeed.
