Kaiya was a School Psychologist Intern for Davis School District during Fall 2024.
Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.
I have worked with Davis School District as a school psychologist and it has been a wonderful opportunity. They have given me great training, guidance, and a wonderful supervisor and mentor who I contact all the time with questions. I feel very supported from BYU as well with the internship class and my professors who are always quick to email.
What did you learn in your internship that you were not expecting to learn?
I've learned the importance of family and how to set boundaries with work - which is something that I have struggled with in the past. But these boundaries have made my work experience even more enjoyable.
How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?
Yes, it makes me want to work in school psychology for a long time instead of immediately pursuing a PhD.
Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.
I have had to rely on the spirit during this internship more than ever because I am working with students who I cannot help on my own. I have felt the spirit whisper words to me to say when meeting with parents or students so that they feel of my love and we can come closer to each other. Specifically, I was meeting with a student who had many experiences with therapy and treatments and I am a school psychologist intern with little experience. I had the feeling to say, "I cannot guarantee that I will have the solution to make all your depression and anxiety go away. But I can promise you that I am in your corner and we will try to figure it out together". That was from the spirit, I felt very strongly that was what the student needed to hear and it started the beginning of a great relationship that I hope I can foster and help this student through some of their struggles.
Would you recommend this internship to other students?
YES! I love this school district, they have been very supportive and my schools are amazing!
