Student Spotlights

Joshua Casanovas: Finance

Joshua was an acquisitions analyst intern for Peak Capital Partners during Fall 2023.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

My responsibilities were to underwrite real estate deals and answer the question "is it worth investing in this property." My analysis consisted of compiling financial data, forecast future cashflows, conduct rent and sales comparables, suggest value-add opportunities and report my findings to a senior analyst. As a result, deals that I underwrote were sent to the investment committee, where they determined whether to deploy capital in the asset or not.

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

I was not expecting to learn the importance of efficiently communicating questions or answers in a concise and precise manner. I realized that it was a skill that I was lacking early on and it allowed me to become more efficient, and aware of other people's time.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

It definitely solidified my interest in real estate investment. It also strengthen my desire to gain more experiences through internships before entering the work force.

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

I was inspired to know what type of coworker I want to be for the people around me.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Absolutely. Peak Capital Partners is a very established firm in the area and they provide incredible exposure to the real estate market and underwriting process to any entry level applicants. Any interns will receive real life experience.
