Jesikah: Psychology

Jesikah interned as a care technician at Center for Change during Winter Semester 2022.

Describe a day in your life as an intern.

Go to work or school or both, help patients with their every need, help them follow the center's guidelines and help them to progress.

What industry/job specific skills did you learn?

I learned how to be a leader in crisis situations with mental health patients, to be kind but firm in giving them ways to overcome their eating disorders and enforcing center rules, to work as a team with other health care professionals, to work in a professional environment, to gain trust with my co-workers and patients.

What are three things that you learned from this experience that could be applied to other settings?

I learned how to be a leader in crisis situations, to be kind but firm, and to work as a team. All of these can be applied to almost any situation because all jobs have crisis, teamwork, and have the importance of communicating clearly but kindly. It means the world to me that I could develop such versatile skills.

What was your favorite part of your internship?

Getting feedback from my supervisor.

How did this experience affect your future goals?

It helped me to see how it is to work in a mental health facility and with mental health patients.

How did you get your internship?

My friend referred me and I applied and got the job.

How did this experience contribute to your growth?

Immensely. It continues to help me feel like I am helping the world in some small way. The entire job I am just serving.
