Jamie completed an internship with the BYU Ballard Center as a managing editor. Here is what Jamie has to say about this experience:
How did your internship align with your initial expectations?
I had actually been the managing editor for about 6 months before even starting the internship, so I knew exactly what the job entailed. So I was able to participate in every project I described at the beginning of the internship.
What day-to-day tasks were part of this experience?
Email, text, and Slack communication; editing via the Google Docs comments feature; Zoom meetings with student authors; team meetings; preparing slide decks via Google Slides for class lectures and team trainings
What would have better prepared you for this internship?
Taking ELANG 410R (Genre and Substantive Editing) before my internship.
Would you recommend this internship to other students?
Yes, working at the Ballard Brief is such a cool opportunity because you're entrusted with so much decision-making power even as a simple undergrad. It's a student-led organization, so it really forces you to step up and take on some professional roles that you've never had before!
