Ivy Chipman: Experience Design and Management

Ivy was a gifts and events coordinator for Grit Marketing during Fall 2023.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

I learned proper research techniques to find explanations for why there are cancer disparities between the race/ethnic populations in the United States. This in turn will contribute to mitigating cancer incidence and mortality rates in suffering populations as well as helping us understand what socioeconomic factors contribute a large role in cancer incidence and mortality. This would also help absolve many aspects of healthcare inequity.

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

I learned how to manage my time. On event weeks, I worked 70-80 hours. I learned how to prepare for that to ensure that I completed everything I needed for school as well.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

Because of my internship, they have offered a full time position once I graduate! I have learned so much that I envision making this company my career!

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

I learned to always make the temple a priority. During my internship, I had a huge event week that would require me to work 70+ hours. I was nervous on how I would complete that as well as do my schooling and spend time with my husband. While I was praying one night and discussing this with Heavenly Father, the spirit said "go to the temple." I was confused at first and thought "that made no logical sense." However, I trusted the Lord and made time for the temple. I had great success that week in all of my endeavors as well as a great sense of peace.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Yes! This company has taught me many life skills including working with a team, deadlines, negotiating, and communications.

Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?

I am grateful for what I have learned. I am grateful for The Grit and I look forward to working with them full time. This is truly a dream job!!!
