Henri Hammari: Accounting

Henri interned for Baker Tilly as a Private Equity Consulting Intern during spring/summer 2022 semester.

Describe a day in your life as an intern.

I worked the entire internship remotely, so my days started by logging in to my laptop, catching up on emails, completing my assigned projects, and messaging my team members on Microsoft Teams to see what other tasks they needed my help with.

What industry/job specific skills did you learn?

During my time in this internship, I got better using Excel, I learned how to communicate better in a remote environment, and I used a lot of software specific to private equity for managing investments and communicating with investors.

What is one thing you learned from this internship experience that could be applied to other settings?

We had an entire company wide training on when it’s appropriate to use emails vs. team messages vs. zoom calls. We also learned how to send calendar invites and set up meetings with coworkers and clients. With all of the technology in the workplace and remote work options available, I know I will continue to use these skills throughout my professional career.

What was your favorite part of your internship experience?

Throughout my internship the company I worked for had lots of random summer days off, weekly Friday leave early days, and we got t-shirts, jackets, swag packages, and candy boxes from the internship coordinators.

How did this internship experience affect your future goals?

I never considered a career in private equity before, but this internship gave me a great experience and taught me a lot about how it works. I definitely still need to explore other options and career paths before deciding if I’ll stick to private equity, but if it weren’t for this internship I wouldn’t even really know about it.

How did you find your internship?

I found my internship through BYU’s Winter 2022 virtual meet the firms event through the Marriott School of Business.
