Grace: Psychology

Grace completed an internship with ACAFS - The Family Academy as a supervisor. Here is what she has to say about this experience:

What day-to-day tasks were part of this internship?

I supervised at-risk families, facilitated exchanges of children between parents, kept detailed notes of familial interactions to be used in court, intervened in interactions to keep them positive and safe, and interviewed the children to get their personal perspectives.

What would have better prepared you for this internship?

I think that I would have been better prepared if I had started earlier on in my undergraduate career.

Was this experience a confirmation that you are going in the right direction, or is it a pivot to something else?

Confirmation. I pursued this internship because I want to be a marriage and family therapist. This position gave me great experience working with families. I really enjoyed working with families going through challenging circumstances.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

I would definitely recommend this internship because it provides a really unique opportunity to help families who can't see each other without supervision interact and improve their relationships.
