Gillian Marcucci: Political Science

Gillian interned for Utah State Legislature as an legislative intern during Winter 2023 Semester.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

I interned for Rep Dunnigan during Utah's legislative session this year. It was one of the best experiences of my life thus far. I shadowed him and learned so much about the legislative process in Utah. I feel more hopeful about our country and Utah's future now, and found a love for legislation and politics.

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

I was not expecting to see so much collaboration, kindness, and friendship between legislators. It was really cool to watch them work together for the greater good, and see how work gets done.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

Before the internship, I knew I was interested in running for office one day, but I wanted to do this internship to find out for sure. After being fully immersed in the legislative process, I realized that it was all I dreamed of and MORE. I know now 100% that I want to run for office one day. I am so grateful!

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

This experience taught me so much about the importance of compromise, forming strong relationships, and working together. I learned that God is so involved in our lives. He is truly in the details. He placed me exactly where I needed to be in order to grow, learn, and have joy.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

YES Because it is SO fun and you learn SO much. You make lasting friends and connections too.
