Student Spotlights

Emma Walker: Communications

Emily was a writer and editor for BYU's College of Humanities Digital Media and Communications during Winter 2026.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

I was blessed with the opportunity to write digital news articles for the BYU College of Humanities, highlighting the research, accomplishments, and unique experiences of students and faculty within the college.

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

My ability to interview and talk with others grew exponentially. Though I am not a Humanities major myself, I learned so much about the research, experiences, and accomplishments of both students and faculty within the College of Humanities. This helped me appreciate the unique and diverse interests of all of God's children.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

Gaining experience in PR and magazine writing opened my ways to new opportunities that I can pursue with the skills I am gaining from my education at BYU.

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

Crafting narrative stories about students, faculty, and staff helped me appreciate their unique contributions to the BYU community.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Yes! 100%! My supervisors were amazing and helped me edit my writing line-by-line to develop my skills as a writer in unique and focused ways. I grew so much as a student, journalist, and lifelong learner during this internship!

Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?

I am so grateful for this opportunity. Applying the skills I learned in my classes to real-world work helped me see how I truly can be a lifelong learner both during and after my time at BYU.

In addition to writing, I gained experience in PR by helping the College of Humanities host events for students, as seen here. (Emily Walker)
