Dylan: Neuroscience

Dylan completed an internship with BYU EMS. Here is what he has to say about this experience:

How did your internship align with your initial expectations?

I had the opportunity to observe, study, practice, and even teach fellow students on emergency medicine. Before this class, I knew CPR, and some other very basic skills from Boy Scouts, now I feel confident to address an emergency concern, administer some drugs, and know the proper protocols until further help arrives.

What day-to-day tasks were part of this experience?

I had to practice taking people's vitals and doing assessments, so I could feel comfortable knowing how to treat people the right way.

What would have better prepared you for this internship?

To know more of the basic medical terms that we used in the course. It was all a very new world and there was a lot to take in.

Was this experience a confirmation that you are going in the right direction, or is it a pivot to something else?

Confirmation. I really enjoyed what I learned and since I got into the BYU EMS program, I feel more confident this is the path for me.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Yes I would, and I have recommended it to some already. We learn very useful skills and it will set you up to qualify for some amazing jobs.
