Claire Corey: Art

Claire was an intern for Utah Artist Sydney Bowman during Summer 2025.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

I helped the local Utah Artist Sydney Bowman teach art classes. Each class had about 20 students, and I would go from student to student helping them with their individual projects. They could be working on pen, pencil, Prismacolor, watercolor, oil, acrylic, or mixed media projects. I gained confidence in teaching and explaining artistic concepts and learning to work with kids who are different ages and have different personalities.

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

I learned how to teach at varying speeds depending on how many kids I had to teach that day.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

Even though my future plans have not necessarily changed I feel more prepared to work with children and handle situations working with a variety of different people.

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

On my last day of class, these two little girls who I got to know pretty well were both hugging me and asking me not to leave. It was so incredibly sweet. I feel like I had a strong connection with a lot these kids, and thinking about how much I care about them made me realize how much Christ loves his children. If I can feel so close to these kids I have a teaching relationship with, I can’t even imagine how much Jesus loves every one of his children.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

I would recommend this internship. I learned so much from working with such a wide variety of students, and I feel like my art skills improved significantly because I was helping the students with such a wide variety of subject matters and mediums. I also learned how an art teacher with lots of experience manages to teach so many students.
