Carmen Hansen: Experiential Design Management

Carmen was an intern for BYU athletics during Spring 2024.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

I have been working on planning two out of state fan fests for BYU Athletics fans (one in Arizona and one in Texas), as well as executing said events. I have been in the planning process for some 100 years of BYU football events towards the end of summer as well.

What did you learn in your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

How important constant and clear communication is.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

It has only solidified more that this is what I want to do!

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

I truly realized how much I love this industry, interacting with fans, and learning about their stories. At the fan fest in Dallas, I talked to an older gentleman and learned all about his family connection to BYU and why he is such a big fan. He told me about how he was in town for his granddaughters graduation and this BYU event happened to be the same weekend which he was so excited about! It's interactions like that that make me eager to go into the fan experience realm of the sporting industry post graduation.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Yes! It is such a great way to get your foot in the door in the sporting industry, and a great way to meet a lot of cool people. It also provides so much experience that normally college students don't get to have!

Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?

Not really! Just another emphasis on how much I love it!
