Camille: Elementary Education

Camille completed an internship with Rose Creek Elementary as a teacher. Here is what she has to say about this experience:

What day-to-day tasks were part of this experience?

I am a full time teacher. I do everything a regular first year teacher does with a little extra work as I am still in school. I write daily lesson plans, keep contact with parents, and have my own classroom teaching my own students.

Was this experience a confirmation that you are going in the right direction, or is it a pivot to something else?

Confirmation. Having my own classroom and teaching kids everyday has made me realize that this is where I’m meant to be. It also has made me realize I would like to get a masters degree and eventually work in administration.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Yes. As an intern in education this is your official first year teaching which every teacher goes through, but not every other first year teacher gets the extra help an intern does. BYU is with you the whole giving suggestions and help to anything you need. A first year teacher does not get usually.

Hannah, her BYU facilitator, Gwen Purcell, and another intern at their school Halloween parade.
