Cali was an intern in South Jordan during Winter 2024.
Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.
The organization worked with an adoption agency to help children find their forever families. I helped with the home study process and offered support to adoptive families.
What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?
I learned that a lot of professional work is creating opportunities for yourself to make a difference, instead of waiting for supervisors to give you work.
How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?
Originally I didn't think I'd be interested in social work experience, but now I might be interested in more social work experience. I am also more inclined to adopt children of my own in the future.
Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.
I had a lot insight into the role of families in the Plan of Salvation. There are so many imperfect things that happen here and I felt the importance of gathering Israel's children through adoption. Meaning that adoption is a way we can gather God's children into safe environments that often give them more opportunities to follow Him.
Would you recommend this internship to other students?
Yes, because of my supervisor. She was very personably and interested in my own life, as well as getting us applicable experiences to participate in. She was very supportive of whatever projects I wanted to take on and has lots of experience in her field, which was helpful to learn from.
