Brendon Anderson: Photography

Brendon interned at Victoria Will during Spring/Summer 2022 semester.

Describe a day in your life as an intern.

I would go to an office in Union Square and assist in file management, emailing clients and assist when shoots came around with looser covid restrictions.

What industry/job specific skills did you learn?

Primarily how to operate as a professional photographer. I learned how to communicate with clients, how important it is to have an agent eventually, as well as how to take better images in stressful environments.

What is one thing you learned from this internship experience that could be applied to other settings?

I learned how to be bold and confident when talking about myself. You can be confident and humble at the same time.

What was your favorite part of your internship experience?

Getting to photograph a celebrity in LA in a private studio setting.

How did this internship experience affect your future goals?

It made me question them, certainly, but also helped me see that my career goals are possible - I just need to work much harder than planned.

How did you find your internship?

I emailed my internship provider over a year ago, asking if she'd speak to my class over zoom about her work. At the end of that meeting, I followed up and asked if I could intern for her.

How did this internship experience contribute to your growth?

It was a surprisingly humbling experience. I have a lot more anxieties about my career now, knowing it's just up to me to make it happen. In college, you have so much support and community that it feels like you can kind of lean on the help of others to get things done, but once you're gone, you're starting from scratch and you have to work hard to get anything. It's all up to you. So I think my time in this internship showed me that I have to work, I have to be diligent, and I have to get out there and be bold and confident and get stuff done if I want to get anywhere.
