Benjamin Kloepfer: Masters of Information Systems Management

Benjamin was a management intern for The Church of Latter-day Saints during Fall 2022.

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

Communication skills and how to best reach out to people. Also, I noticed the need to adjust communication styles based on cultures and individual preferences and to not take the same approach for everyone.

How have your future plans changes because of what you learned from your internship experience?

My internship made me more interested in project management and showed me that I could be successful in a less technical Information Systems role.

One of the primary purposes of experiential learning at BYU is inviting the inspiration of the Spirit into your learning. How were you inspired during this experience?

Through our weekly devotionals, and the church-centered experience that is working in the Church and particularly on the construction of temples, I was able to see my coworkers receive inspiration about the construction of temples and the moving forward of the Work. It was inspiring to see.

Would you recommend this internship to other students, why?

I definitely would, as long as the student is okay with not getting a lot of technical experience or new technologies under their belt.

"This is me in a meeting with my team, some network engineers, and the staff of the Cebu Philippines temple. The Cebu temple was one of my biggest projects and achievements during my time. This was the best photo that I had of me in any sort of work setting. The people in the photo are, top to bottom, Brady Clark Benson Tolido Josiah Almaquer Jeff Tiedeman Brother Spencer"
"I heading to work remotely on BYU campus. I worked from BYU campus to feel like I was "going to work" instead of just sitting at home. I came to love my bike rides and the little commute that I did to help myself feel productive and proactive during my mostly remote internship."
