Angela Lamarche: Experience Design

Angela interned for FSY Conferences as a counselor during spring/summer 2022 semester.

Describe a day in your life as an intern.

I had to wake up really early to get ready for the day and be at my morning meeting. After the meeting, I went to get my girls and take them to breakfast. After breakfast, I led a gospel study lesson and took my company to a morning devotional. The rest of everyday looked a little different, but I basically was fully responsible for my company, making sure everyone was where they needed to be and was enjoying their experience. Thus meant talking and getting to know them, playing games with them, and investing in their experience. Every night, I led a discussing about the day and engaged in a social activity with my participants- a dance, games night, pizza nt, etc.

What industry/job specific skills did you learn?

How to create a good transformational experience, how to work well with youth, mass customization, problem solving skills, working under stress and no sleep.

What is one thing you learned from this internship experience that could be applied to other settings?

As a counselor, really fast you get really good at being a leader and getting out of your comfort zone. The participants assigned to you look up to you as a mentor and friend. They follow my example and want to be just like me. You have to rise to the role of helping them to improve their life! It takes a lot to be outgoing and selflessly invested in their life and their experience

What was your favorite part of your internship experience?

LITERALLY EVERYTHING!! I love fsy so much! I think my favorite part was getting to truly touch so many lives! Having these participants come in on Monday and then not wanting to be there and then you see them on Friday the last day crying because they don't want to leave is so amazing they make lifelong friends they grow their testimonies and they just have one of the best experiences of their whole life and I got to be a part of it and help facilitate that

How did this internship experience affect your future goals?

One of the things we really focus on with our participants is goal setting. We set goals with them each week and teach them that goal setting is really important to improve your life little by little. This internship has really opened my eyes to how important it is to include the Lord in every part of my life. It's taught me that relationships are important, and I should invest in others. This year at College I wanted to be better at making friends and keeping up my spirituality. In the future I would love to work in a job that values relationships and changing people's lives for the better

How did you find your internship?

I found my internship through my past experience I had going to EFY conferences as a youth and always wanted to work as a counselor. In addition, there were signs around campus and announcements at church. I even had somebody from Church Headquarters come visit my religion class and talk about FSY as a good summer job for young single adults.

How did this internship experience contribute to your growth?

This internship has changed my life in every single way in every area of my life. I'm a better person who is wanting to improve with the help of my Savior. I feel like I am more confident as a person, I have better problem solving skills, and I'm more social and better at interacting with other people

This is a picture at me and Ephraim Utah at one of the dances we had on Tuesday nights. As a counselor it's my job at the dances to make sure the youth are having a good time and getting out of their comfort zone and making new friends while they have this wholesome social experience. The dances were some of the highlights of my FSY experience because it was so fun to just get to have so much fun with these youth!!!
This picture was taken when I was in Oregon after having games night on Wednesday night period my company had so much fun competing and playing all these games against the other companies it was cool for me to get to watch the company Unity that starts to happen as these youth open up to each other and get competitive and start to take pride in our company. So much sweat but so many smiles!!
