Amber Aiwohi: Statistics

Amber was a data analytics intern for Master Control during Summer Term 2023.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

My main project while interning for Master Control included analyzing the conversion rates of those who were interested in the company's product (a qualified lead) and continued on to becoming a potential customer (qualified opportunity). I performed this analysis using exploratory data analysis (EDA) and regression analysis. From my findings, the marketing team could then determine which campaigns were more successful, where to spend more money due to higher conversion rates, and how to improve.

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

Something I wasn't expecting to learn was the importance of connections and relationships within a company. People don't like working with others who aren't nice, genuine, and helpful. Before every meeting, every sync, and even simply seeing people in the hall, before talking about work, it's critical to talk about life. Asking co-workers how they're doing or what their plans are for the weekend is a small gesture that can establish a lot of trust. Showing that you care about who they are as a person allows for a positive, successful work environment as you work together.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

I plan to gain experience in the work force as much as I can. Interacting with people in meetings, realize what skills I have and what skills I don't have, and applying what I've learned in real-life situations don't just come. That growth only happens when working, and I hope to always be engaging in those growth opportunities regardless at whatever stage of life I'm in.

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

During my internship, I learned how much I know, but more importantly I learned how much I don't know. At first it worried me as I stressed about how I'd take-on projects and successfully analyze data. However, building the skill of resilience and not being afraid to make mistakes is something I'm hoping to learn even more as I continue at Master Control. I am part of the data team, and each of us have different talents and skills. Everyone on the data team is genuinely willing and wanting to help when someone is feeling stuck. Not being afraid to ask for help and being teachable are components I've come to know are crucial when wanting to be an inspired learner.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

I 100% would recommend this internship to other students because I wasn't treated as an intern. I was treated as an employee. I was given my own individual projects. I presented my own findings to directors of the different departments. The work I did mattered to the company, and the company valued who I was. Also, Master Control treats their employees so well and it's a such fun place to work.

Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?

Nothing beats real-world experience. I have learned so much that I couldn't have learned in a classroom, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Master Control.
