Alexis Heslop: Human Development

Alexis was an EMT Intern for the BYU EMS during Winter 2025.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

I took the BYU EMT class and it was a great experience! I learned so much about emergency medicine and how to serve others in true emergencies and am grateful for all the experience that I have gained in this short time.

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

I learned so much more about emergency medicine and the mental grit that it requires, along with how rewarding it is. Neither of these things I had anticipated fully!

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

I have considered other pathways toward my ultimate goal of becoming a PA, such as pursuing a career in emergency medicine as a paramedic first, but my end goal remains the same.

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

I learned that this field of work will be difficult for me, but I know that this is where I am supposed to be and where the Lord needs me to be.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

I would definitely recommend this internship to other students! Especially those hoping to pursue a career in the medical field. It offers such great experience and so many wonderful opportunities and will help you obtain a certification that will help open so many employment doors as a college student with relatively limited work experience.

Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?

100% recommend, it will change your life for the better!!
