Aleia Allen: Experience Design and Management

Aleia was a Product Management Intern for Mastercard during Spring 2025.

Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.

I supported the deployment of AI-driven fraud detection models by collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance transaction risk scoring and improve data integration across Mastercard Services. I also facilitated design thinking sessions/sprints to drive innovation in product development and operational strategies, contributing to more user-centric and efficient solutions for the open finance sector rebrand. And I contributed to strategic data initiatives within the Payments and Risk domain, leveraging analytical insights to strengthen Mastercard’s fraud prevention capabilities

What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?

I’ve learned that any strength is valuable in any industry as long as you are willing to work hard enough to clearly communicate it through self-motivated actions and active learning.

How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?

Definitely. So many more paths have been made possible through this internship and I know that I can enter whatever path I want to with confidence.

Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.

I felt closer to my Savior as I asked for the ability to go beyond my own capacity and for the confidence to be myself despite feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. I learned that if I was willing to work hard and humbly ask for help, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ would enable me to succeed.

Would you recommend this internship to other students?

Yes! Mastercard is an amazing global company with a place for everyone. Despite the competitive internship program, I felt that my unique talents and voice were valued and heard. They have a very structured program with clearly defined goals and objectives, giving students real potential for growth. They also frequently hire their interns and want you to interview them as much as they are interviewing you.

Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?

Internships are amazing!

Four other interns and I got to experience corporate life at Mastercard’s Salt Lake City office.
Mastercard gives their employees paid volunteer time and my team and I got to attend their Utah Food Bank activity
