Aimee was a legal intern in London during Fall 2024.
Briefly explain what you did and the result of your internship.
I spent the semester working at a historic Inns of Court in central London helping to research, organize, and index documents relating to the development of international business law. It was incredibly interesting and a great way to also learn about how the English legal system functions differently from the American.
What did you learn in your internship that you were not expecting to learn?
How different the English legal system is from the American. Since the American legal system was built from the English, I assumed they would be more similar.
How have your future plans changed because of what you learned from your internship experience?
Before going to London I always hoped to be able to move there one day, this only strengthened that desire.
Please share how your experience led to personal inspiration or insightful revelation.
The personal growth I experienced while abroad had more to do with working and living in London than the work itself. I believe it is invaluable to spend time living in another country.
Would you recommend this internship to other students?
Yes! I will always recommend going on a study abroad to other students! I am so privileged to say this was my third BYU study abroad. I also studied at the BYU London Centre fall of 2014 as a sophomore, then spent a month in Taiwan with the College of Nursing in 2017 for my global health practicum. It has expanded my world view so much while increasing my appreciation for other cultures, peoples, religions, and history.
Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?
I am so grateful I was able to live at 27 Palace Court again a whole decade later as a graduate student! I wonder if I am the first student to be able to swing both a undergraduate and graduate semester at Palace Court. My mom studied at Palace Court in the 80's and it will always be such a special place to me and my family. I am so grateful I was able to have my husband with me this time too to experience living in London with him and have him understand how much the city means to me.
