Sarah Edwards: Social Media

Sarah Edwards participated in an on-campus internship by working Catalyst Arts in MSB 494R.

What type of projects did you work on as part of your experiential learning course?

My team worked with Catalyst Arts to improve Event Operations and Communications, as well as improve Social Media strategies for the business,

What day to day tasks were part of this experience?

Day to day tasks included researching software systems and social media strategies, implementing company database information into new software systems, communicating with contracted talent for events, and creating an Event Operations and Communications Manual.

What did you learn unexpectedly?

I learned how difficult it can be to run a company if the proper systems are not in place; it can make the company very disorganized and inefficient.

How was this experience influenced your career goals?

Working with Catalyst Arts has made me excited to pursue my career in the Sports Management industry; I thought going into the internship that I wanted to do corporate events, but this internship allowed me to see that I don't work as well in that environment than I thought I would.

What types of new opportunities are now available because of the experience?

I now have experience working the backend of planning for and assisting to execute large events, and can take that experience with me into any future position.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

On-campus internships are a great way to get your foot in the door in an industry you are excited about. My internship helped me refine my interests and get real-life experience.
