Project Description
Students develop competence with a relevant set of software engineering concepts, data science, practices, and tools. The Capstone course is intended to be the culminating experience for students in the Computer Science Software Engineering Emphasis or Data Science Emphasis, but may be taken by other students, as well. Students use modern project management techniques to organize, plan, and track their project’s progress.

This semester our students are developing micro lessons for NOMAS Legal and also prototyping lessons for a new survey, business course in the Marriott School of Management.

What we will provide
We provide graduate students (master's and doctoral students) in a companion course (IP&T 664) along with undergraduate students from the Design Thinking Minor, who are mentored by these graduate students, in designing and prototyping instructional content for another institution. This semester we had so many students we undertook two different projects. One of them is working with the non-profit NOMAS Legal to develop micro lessons and training for their volunteers; the other is working with the Marriott School of Management to develop a new, survey business course. We also take these students on a design trip to California each year using experiential grant money.

Construction Facility Management 416R: Capstone
Project Description

Brigham Young University's Capstone course (ME/ EVE 475 & 476) has gained reputation as one of the finest mentoring experiences of its type in the country. Combining the skills of electrical, mechanical, computer and manufacturing engineering seniors, teams of 5-7 students engage in industry-sponsored, two-semester projects. Students are instructed in product development and design by one of four engineering professors, and each team is coached by a dedicated faculty coach. All IP developed during the project remains the property of the sponsor.

Project Description
Students produce both a working information system (web, desktop, mobile, IoT, analytics, etc), and evaluate how well that system achieves objectives both qualitatively and quantitatively. Projects commonly involve analyzing human and organizational factors in concert with the technology. At least some portion of the project must produce knowledge useful to the problem domain generally. 2020's top-rated project was Dollar 4 Good (dollarforgood.org).

Simmons Center for Cancer Research

Project Description
The BYU Simmons Center for Cancer Research is dedicated to training undergraduate and graduate students in experimental oncology in an effort to make a significant contribution to finding a cure for cancer. Each year the center sponsors numerous cancer research fellows.
