Kyle Svenson: Family Life

Kyle Svenson participated in practicum by doing research with Dr. Busby in SFL 403R.

What type of projects did you work on as part of your Experiential Learning course?

I worked in a research group with Dr. Busby as we studied hormones and the affects that they may have on relationships

What day to day tasks were part of this experience?

I was tasked with communicating with outside companies about hormonal assays, procedures and experimental feasibility. I also read articles and contributed to our knowledge of hormonal interactions

What did you learn unexpectedly?

I learned that experiments/studies are more convoluted than I thought. There are so many factors to consider especially when looking at hormones

How has this experience influenced your career goals?

It has really interested me in continuing on to medical school to be an OBGYN. I have come to realize how little we know and the potential that we have to truly solve a lot of day to day problems

What types of new opportunities are now available because of the experience?

As a microbiology major and an SFL minor I have actually been in contact with a company that applies to my major. Through talking with them I have had a few avenues open up for internship options.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

It was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend research regardless of topic or field.
