MSDLA was a culminating project where I created five different learning centers to help my students learn self management skills to complete tasks in small groups without teacher assistance.
What day to day tasks were part of this experience?
I spent a total of 20 hours completing the background experience, creating the centers, and collecting the needed materials. I an additional 5 hours to implement the centers for my students.
What did you learn unexpectedly?
I unexpectedly learned the importance of collaboration with other educators and administrators. I had to coordinate with them to adjust the master schedule to help gather my students for their centers without taking them away from their class. I also needed to work with their homeroom teachers to align the core standards with what they learned in their other classes.
How has this experience influenced your career goals?
It reinforced my desire to work with children with different abilities and needs.
What types of new opportunities are now available because of the experience?
I have been offered 4 jobs with various school districts who all offered bonuses based on the work I did with this program.
