Brock interned at BYU Religious Studies during Fall 2022.
What did you learn on your internship that you were not expecting to learn?
I didn’t expect to learn how to develop an entire brand or lead a team of students. However, since I demonstrated my dedication to my internship and worked hard every day, I was found trustworthy to hold a position where I was in charge of other students and responsible for the entire brand strategy of BYU Religious Education.
How have your future plans changes because of what you learned from your internship experience?
I’ve actually been struggling to decide between which employer to go with, as I’ve interviewed with several places and received multiple offers. But my career path has remained the same.
One of the primary purposes of experiential learning at BYU is inviting the inspiration of the Spirit into your learning. How were you inspired during this experience?
I felt inspired by the Spirit to improve the quality of our production at BYU Religious Education. We needed better produced videos and I was able to see success in accomplishing that during my time there, which is evident from the higher watch time numbers and subscriber count.
Would you recommend this internship to other students, why?
Absolutely. It gives you autonomy over the entire brand strategy and they place an immense amount of trust in you. Nothing is better than learning by doing hands-on work on social media platforms for communications internships.
Is there anything else you would like to say regarding your internship?
The best advice I could give is to be bold but not overbearing in your work. Make suggestions and produce work that you would never think could be published, and then pitch it to your employer — they may end up giving you praise and credit for coming up with a great idea!
