Braden Burk participated in an on-campus internship by becoming a sourcing analyst in FIN 487R.
What type of projects did you work on as part of your Experiential Learning course?
I worked as a sourcing analyst for Battery Ventures. I searched for companies that fit an investment thesis formed by a team lead assigned to us from Battery and learned to lead calls with founders, read important Saas metrics and was charged with thesis generation.
What day to day tasks were part of this experience?
I would search on Linkedin, Google, VC and Startups, and many other places for potential good investments, study given material to help me understand the inner workings of a good tech firm.
How has this experience influenced your career goals?
I have loved my experience with Battery. I have seen what I do and don't like about the tech and VC space. It has helped me to see what type of Venture firm I want to be in and has made me a more curious person to be able to seek out the answers to my own questions.
What types of new opportunities are now available because of the experience?
Because of what I learned at Battery, I feel more confident in my interviews with Venture firms, and I feel like I really know how to break in to the Venture Capital world.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I think that anybody thinking about doing this should definitely give it a chance. I learned more from this experience than any of my other classes this semester. It is hard. So definitely give yourself lots of time and wiggle room because you'll want to give it all the time that you are able to.
