Student Spotlights

Amy Rich: History

Amy Rich participated in student teacher practicum in HIST 478.

What type of projects did you work on as part of your Experiential Learning course?

I planned and taught six lessons to High School Government students

What day to day tasks were part of this experience?

I observed teaching, worked with students one-on-one, and prepared lessons on a variety of topics.

What did you learn unexpectedly?

One unexpected learning moment happened when one of my presentations wouldn't load. I learned that I know how to teach on the fly and that technical difficulties won't get in the way of my future teaching!

How has this experience influenced your career goals?

This experience has taught me that I enjoy working with high school seniors and that I have the presence and skills to manage a classroom of older students.

What types of new opportunities are now available because of the experience?

Because of this experience, I am prepared for my student teaching, which is frequently considered the hardest experience of any teaching degree. The more prepared I am to go into this, the better my student teaching experience will be.
